Installing tree root barriers to mature, veteran and TPO’d trees is becoming a greater portion of the work we carry out.
Whilst there are no laid out standards for the specification or installation of tree root barriers all the installations that we carry out balance the health of the tree with the requirements of the protection. Working in this way we can retain some beautiful trees in circumstances where they would otherwise have to be removed.
To install the barrier without causing undue stress to the trees we use our Airspade tool to excavate around the tree roots, without causing damage to them. Once this has been completed, any required roots are manipulated or pruned in accordance with best practice guidance, using sharp, disinfected hand tools.
The root barriers that we use are supplied by Green Blue Urban and are purpose built for use as tree root barriers. Once installed they provide a permanent, impermeable solution to preventing roots from accessing and damaging, driveways, drainage, or buildings.
